About our Pastor and the First Family

Pastor Duke

Elder Kenneth A. Duke
An anointed, appointed and consecrated visionary

Elder Kenneth A. Duke had a rendezvous with destiny which was pre-ordained by the foreknowledge of God. Chosen as a proclaimer of the Christian Gospel, he was born to the parentage of Elder Dan and Eunice Duke in St. Louis Missouri. He is a third generation of preachers and was nurtured in an atmosphere of Biblical virtues where he acknowledged the Lordship of Christ and was baptized at age 9. Under the tutelage of his parents and church, Kenneth grew in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Like the ancient priest Samuel, he responded to the ministry call in his youth. He was licensed to preach by the Mt. Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church of Indianapolis, Indiana, at fourteen years of age. Under the power of God and unction of the Holy Ghost, he was faithful to his calling and was ordained at Franklin, Tennessee by the Lynn Creek Primitive Baptist Association when he was sixteen. Continuing to follow the divine plan for his life, Elder Kenneth Duke was called to the pastorate of the Good Shepherd Primitive Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas at age nineteen.

After several years at the Good Shepherd church and a stint at the historic Bishop College in Dallas, Elder Duke and his family re-located to Miami, Florida to serve the New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church where he has been the Senior Pastor for the past twenty-two years.

Building upon Christ the foundation of the church Elder Duke has commenced upon programs to inform, inspire, empower, edify and strengthen the citizens of the Kingdom of God. He is the instrument of God whom the Lord uses to elevate persons in economic depression, liberate the victims of racial isolation and social suffocation and raise them thorough Christian transformation. He has distinguished himself as a spiritual magnet throughout America and is unique in this application of the Word of God for its life-changing potential. Under the anointing he has brought the message of salvation, hope, joy, peace, freedom from fear and aspiration to up lift the optimum worth of each of God’s creations to thousands who attend his evangelistic crusades. His preaching is Bible-based, theologically sound and practical. He is a humble servant of God who is always available and responsive to his congregation and community.

With a vision of the times and the dynamic leadership of its pastor, the New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church of Miami has seen phenomenal growth since the arrival of Pastor Kenneth Duke. The membership now exceeds seventeen hundred; the ministry base has expanded to the securing of a full-time youth pastor, associate ministers, a minister of counseling, an office staff of six, and several full-time maintenance workers. The church facilitated the operation of a major education facility (Pre-K through grade 6) with a full-time faculty and supporting clerical personnel. Excellence is the driving force of the Abundant Life Christian Learning Center which has two components: the Safe Haven Child Development Center which serves children ages 2-4, and the New Jerusalem Christian Academy which encompasses Kindergarten through Grade 6. The current enrollment exceeds two hundred. The child is pre-eminent: his spiritual, physical, and academic needs take priority. These are the factors which consume much of the energy and time of Pastor Duke.

Elder Duke is president and chief executive officer of the New Jerusalem Community Development Corporation, a community based initiative which provides after-school care and a summer program for youth. This corporation also features a component which focuses on economic development opportunities for adults.

If the career of this servant of Christ and his pastoral leadership could be capsulated in a single phrase, “Abundant Success” best describes the journey of the Senior Pastor/Teacher of New Jerusalem Church, the Moderator of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Association, (which is composed of some thirty-six churches and their pastors), the past chairman of the Board of Evangelism of the Florida State Primitive Baptist Convention, and the immediate past chairman of the Board of Evangelism and Mission of the National Primitive Baptist Convention U.S.A. When reflecting on a position which he is most delighted to have served, he refers to his tenure as president of the National Primitive Baptist Youth Congress, U.S.A.

Elder Duke is married to the former Julia Goode who is an ever faithful support and compliment to his ministry. They are the parents of twin sons Kenneth D. and Kelon and a daughter Aheisha.

Evangelist Duke

Evangelist Julia A. Duke is a born again child of the King who exemplifies fortitude and determination among the people of God. She has broken the chains of suppression and silence surrounding the women of God, to courageously proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. With an aura of godliness and a vocal dynamism, Evangelist Duke presents an oral synchronization of sight and sound that brings to life the inspiring word of God. She is a light set upon a hill to revitalize the mindsets of those who aim to diminish the impact and life-changing realities that God has ordained for His chosen people. Not afraid to journey onto uncharted territory, Evangelist Duke seeks to elevate to the level of acceptance women of God who preach the gospel of Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Evangelist Duke is the daughter of the late Mr. Alvin L. Goode, Sr. and Mrs. Jacqueline Goode-Russell. She received her early education in the St. Louis City and County School District and also attended St. Louis Community College and Barclay School of Business.

In the year 1995, Julia A. Goode became the helpmeet to Elder Kenneth A. Duke, the visionary of the New Jerusalem Primitive Baptist Church, becoming a first lady who graciously accepted the roles of first lady and mother to three children, twin sons, Kenneth and Kelon and one daughter, Aheisha J. Duke. Shortly after this union Evangelist Duke completed her undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 2002.

It was also in the year 2002 that this anointed woman of God proclaimed her calling to the ministry. As the Lord saw fit to entrust His servant with the duty of being an ambassador and an instrument in spreading the gospel abroad, he began to enlarge her territory and bless her indeed. Evangelist Duke uses her spiritual gifts preaching, teaching, and singing praises to the Almighty King. Presently, she serves as Chairlady of the local Minister’s Wives. She is a member of the Ministerial Staff and Sunday School Teacher of the Co-Ed Adult Class of New Jerusalem Church. She continues to explore new horizons which she believes will ultimately draw masses of people to accept the call that God has upon their lives.
